Congratulations to Md Mahshook A on the publication of his first paper in Physical Review Materials: “Beyond Diamond: Interpretable Machine Learning Reveals Design Principles for Quantum Defect Host Materials.”

The work combines interpretable machine learning with first-principles DFT calculations to accelerate discovery of quantum hosts. Using Rashomon set ensembles, the work identifies 122 promising candidates from ~45,000 compounds—a powerful demonstration of how machine learning and physics-based reasoning complement one another.

A well-deserved milestone and wonderful outcome from rigorous, thoughtful research.
